'A lovely thing' - Liverpool FC makes annual fan name update to Anfield tunnel

Liverpool FC has made its annual update to the iconic players' tunnel at Anfield ahead of the 2025-26 season getting under way.

Each year, the club proudly honours season ticket holders and seasonal hospitality members by displaying their name alongside the famous walk out to the pitch.

Since the summer of 2021, names have been woven into the fabric of the stadium ahead of every campaign, next to the Reds' squad in the tunnel as they take to the playing surface for home fixtures.

A special way to acknowledge fans, this year the tradition has taken a fresh twist as the design now features new, bold custom fonts and dynamic wing expressions.

Each new element for the enhancement has been inspired by the legendary Liver bird emblem - an enduring symbol of the city of Liverpool.

The tradition - which has seen more than 28,000 names added in the latest update - remains a powerful connection between supporters, players, the club and its heritage.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com about the installation, season ticket holder John Nicolson said: "I think it's a great idea for the names to be at Anfield. It's great that the club renew it every year so that you have that little connection with the place.

"I was a tour guide for a short time too, so I was able to walk down the tunnel on many occasions and see my name there and take people round to show them the stadium.

"I just love going to Anfield and to have my name etched their makes it extra-special. I stand on the Kop, one of my sons is in the Kenny [Dalglish Stand], my other son is in front of me, and my best mate is next to me, who I have been going with since 1972.

"Anfield is such a wonderful place. I love going whether we're playing Carlisle, Chelsea or Chesterfield. It doesn't matter who it is - Port Vale or PSG - I just love to go to the game. To be part of that yourself is brilliant and a lovely thing."

He added: "You just grew up with football when you were a kid. I first went when I was eight in 1967, and I can still remember the game - against Chelsea - and exactly where I was stood.

"I was in the Anfield Road end right behind the goal with my brother, and one of the first things that got me was the roar from the Kop. Sure enough I was just astounded with the atmosphere, the support and the singing - I was hooked.

"Anfield is truly a special place for all of us as Liverpool fans."
